The Northwest Region Office of Legal Services (NW RLSO) provides law enforcement, command and court reporter assistance to Navy and Marine Corps commands, as well as legal advice for active duty members, family members and retirees in its designated geographic area (currently includes 11 states – Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska) and performs other functions and duties, which may be instructed by the appropriate authority. RLSO NW provides legal assistance on a variety of issues to active duty members and their dependents, as well as reservists who have been on active duty for 30 days or more, as well as pensioners. Legal assistance may include advice on matters such as financial and consumer matters, disaster relief and advice, family law, foreclosure advice and advice, immigration, notarial services, powers of attorney, landlord and tenant matters, civil defence law for military personnel, Small Claims Court matters, victim support, and wills/estate planning. RLSO NW provides legal advice and command services primarily to naval commandos without their own judge or advocate general.
